Alberta rye whisky on the world stage

Alberta Premium Cask Strength Whisky was put on the international stage to much acclaim earlier this year — in September 2020, it was named “World Whisky of the Year” by Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2021.

Distilled in Calgary by Alberta Distillers and aged for a minimum of five years, this whisky was created using 100% pure Canadian prairie grains grown by local farmers, along with Rocky Mountain spring water for a drink best served neat or on the rocks. It’s a real reflection of Canadian tastes, pride and craftsmanship. Alberta Distillers is one of the few remaining 100 per cent Canadian rye whisky producers in North America, having produced high quality rye whisky for over 50 years.

The official tasting notes of this award-winning whisky are:

Aromas: sweet, woody and oaky, with a hint of vanilla.

Palate: exceptionally smooth taste with notes of caramel, vanilla and just a hint of chocolate, as well as rye and black currant, and a lingering finish of spice, warm vanilla and dark fruit

Tasted along with more than 1,252 whiskies this year, the 100% rye whisky from Alberta was noted by Jim Murray with the following:

“A succulence to the oils, balanced perfectly by ulmo and manuka honeys for the most chewable Canadian mouthfeel possibly ever...and yet this is constantly salivating from the very first nanosecond...Truly world-class whisky from possibly the world’s most underrated distillery. How can something be so immense yet equally delicate? For any whisky lover on the planet looking for a huge but nearly perfectly balanced experience, here you go. And with rye at its most rampantly beautiful, this is something to truly worship.”

Naturally, this level of acclaim has sold this whisky out everywhere in the Canadian market these past few months! If you’re wanting to get your hands on this award-winning whisky made right here in Alberta, you’re in luck — City Cellars now has the Alberta Premium Cask Strength whisky in stock, with a limit of one bottle per person due to its popularity.
