Looking for the perfect, drinkable gift to put a smile on Mom’s face this Mother’s Day? We’ve put together the perfect Mother’s Day gift guide featuring wines we carry in store at a variety of prices, whether she is a fan of sparkling, white, rosé or red wine.
For the Sparkling Wine Lover
With sparkling wine, it’s possible to save or splurge depending on what part of the world it’s coming from! If you’re on a budget, give her the Pares Balta Cava Brut — though made in the same traditional method as Champagne, Cava from Catalonia, Spain usually uses Indigenous grape varietals and is a great value for the price. If you want to spend a little more, look at the Clover Hill Cuvée Rosé from Tasmania for a fun rosé bubbly . For the ultimate splurge, get her the Bollinger Special Cuvée Brut — because nothing quite says “I love you and you’re worth celebrating” like Champagne!
For the White Wine Lover
If Mom prefers a lighter white wine, the Marques de Marialva Colheita Seleccionada from Portugal is a great value fruity and fresh choice. If she loves a fuller bodied, aromatic white wine, the Sparr Gewurztraminer Reserve from France is tropical, energetic and a great match for spicy food. And if you want to splurge on a very special Chardonnay (the best in the world this year, in fact), she’ll be super impressed with the Giaconda Chardonnay from Australia.
For the Rosé Lover
New vintages of rosé are starting to arrive in store! Keep it local with a Canadian rosé — Lake Breeze Rosé from the Okanagan or Malivoire Lady Bug Rosé from Niagara. But if she’s looking for a bit more complexity from a rosé, the Rosé Cuvée Cru Classe Tibouren from France is one of our all-time favourites.
For the Red Wine Lover
For a chillable red that’s great for summer and patio drinks, the Petit Perou Morgon Tradition from Beaujolais, France is exceptional with all kinds of food as well as on its own. You also can’t go wrong with Tempranillo from Rioja, Spain — we recommend the Coto de Imaz Reserva for taste and great value. Or, if you want to really wow her with a wine that already has some age on it so is great for drinking now (or perfect for additional cellaring), the 2016 Heitz Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has been aged to perfection for enjoying now, but will continue to reward for 20+ years.
